András Ravasz
1959, Budapest
András Ravasz’s work is characterised by genre diversity – alongside a conceptual and popular mode of expression – as well as the use of a wide range of mediums. His oeuvre includes sound installations, experimental videos, digital visual and musical collages, and in recent years photography has taken on a more prominent role among the mediums he employs. His active artistic career began in the late 1980s as a founding member of the Újlak Group. During this period, he participated in numerous exhibitions with the group and took an active role in organising non-profit artist-run spaces, including the Tűzoltó 72 exhibition space. In 1997, he further expanded his contributions to the art scene by establishing the U.F.F. Gallery.
Over the past decades, he has participated in more than a hundred exhibitions in Hungary and exhibited his works at several internationally acclaimed institutions, including the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, Lille Métropole Musée d'art moderne, Schirn Kunsthalle in Frankfurt, FotoRio Biennial in Rio de Janeiro, the 6th Baku Biennial of Contemporary Art, the Hungarian National Gallery and the Capa Contemporary Photography Center in Budapest. He has held solo exhibitions at venues such as Neue Galerie Graz, Gasworks Gallery London, Galerie Magda Danysz in Paris, Ludwig Museum Budapest, Kunsthalle Budapest, and his representative INDA Gallery.
