Liksay Csenge Gyopár: The Death of the Beast

"It may seem like a distant parallel, yet I cannot think of a more expressive way to describe my relationship to female identity than through the path taken by artistically gifted children in their encounter with art. It is a primordial conflict within me—one that I did not create, yet must still confront, as if it were an obligation, a task that demands resolution. The steps of the task are the same, and so is its goal: to overcome the conditioning imposed by institutions and society, and to realize that this primordial conflict does not actually exist, but is merely a mirage produced by that conditioning."

In the works presented in this exhibition, Liksay examines personal and social layers simultaneously. Through a self-reflective narrative, she connects questions of female identity, institutionalized art education, and contemporary feminist discourse. Starting from experiences of pressure to conform, the loss of creative autonomy, and crises of identity, she seeks a new visual and conceptual language through the observation of nature. Rather than depicting the female body directly, she explores the possibilities of finding identity through allegorical systems inspired by patterns of behaviour in the animal kingdom.
